Is a simple but at he same time a profound movie portraying in a natural and poetical way the everyday hard life of a Mongolian nomad family with unbelievable sweet pigtail children who throw their arms around cute dogs and live in carefree way through the endlessly vast countryside. cicae

The 2005’s CICAE jury of San Sebastian’s International film festival, has decided unanimously to attribute the prize for The best first european film to Alex, directed by José Alcala, France.
Indeed, he realizes a first film full of humility, humanity where interpreters give to their characters the realism of a difficult social reality, out of any ostentation.
For the universality of the subject, because it shows Alex’s struggle, to reach the happiness and an emocional stability, that´s why our protagonist invests all her efforts.

CÍRCULO DE ESCRITORES CINEMATOGRÁFICOS
(Screenwriters’ Guild)
2005 CEC Award for Best Film
53st Donostia-San Sebastian International Film Festival

Donostia-San Sebastian, 23 September 2005

For another year, the Círculo de Escritores Cinematográficos (CEC) has been present at the Donostia-San Sebastian International Film Festival with its traditional Award for Best Film. All of the films competing in the Official Section were eligible for this award.
Founded in 1943, the CEC is one of the oldest cinematographic institutions in Spain, consisting of over a hundred film critics and screenwriters. Its activities are aimed at promoting cinema, especially Spanish cinema, and include the presentation of its prestigious annual awards to Spanish films, the organisation of tributes, film seasons and conferences, collaboration with other institutions and the promotion of the publication of specialized books.
As at the last Festivals, the CEC has invited all of the Spanish journalists accredited at the Festival —whether CEC members or not— to join the jury of its award for best film.
Having counted the votes, the Círculo de Escritores Cinematográficos’ Award for Best Film goes to:

JE NE SUIS PAS LÀ POUR ETRÊ AIMÉ, by Stéphane Brizé.

Jerónimo José Martín
Presidente del CEC

Guipuzcoan Blood-Donors’ Association corresponding to the Solidarity Award / Elkartasun Saria

The quality of the films in competition at the 53rd edition of the Donostia-San Sebastian International Film Festival is without question in terms of cinematic quality, art, content and form. However, this is not the case in terms of solidarity, a value which is clearly lacking in the films presented in this year’s competition. In these circumstances, the Jury of the “Guipuzcoan Blood-Donors’ Association corresponding to the Solidarity Award / Elkartasun Saria”, whose purpose is to award a prize to the movie which to the greatest extent promotes and highlights the human values that prompt the individual to act in solidarity, with self-sacrificing altruism, without expecting anything in return, has agreed to:

declare the award void in the 53rd edition

Donostia-San Sebastian, 23 September 2005

The Jury of the Guipuzcoan Blood-Donors’ Association corresponding to the Solidarity Award/Elkartasun Saria consisted of the following members:

  • Mr. Jose Manuel Cárdenas. Manager of the Guipuzcoan Blood Bank.
  • Mr. Sabin Urcelay. Chairman of the Guipuzcoan Blood Donors’ Association.
  • Ms. Txaro Arteaga. Former Director of the Basque Women’s Institute, EMAKUNDE.
  • Mr. Juan Carlos Redondo. General Manager of Zihurko.
  • Ms. Ainhoa Furundarena. Treasurer of the Guipuzcoan Blood Donors’ Association.
  • Mr Mikel Bernués. Collaborator of the Guipuzcoan Blood Donors’ Association and film enthusiast.

GEHITU

GEHITU, gays lesbians and transsexuals association of the Basque Country represented through a jury composed with some of its own members: Encarna Suárez, Alex Godard, Mikel Garayar, Sofia Arsuaga, Eñaut Otazo, Lara Mintegiaga, Jose Luís Pérez, Alejandro Ochoa y Pablo Larraya wants to award its SEBASTIAN 2005 prize at MALAS TEMPORADAS, directed by MANUEL MARTIN CUENCA for integrating beyond clichés an homosexual love story inside a bad times context that main characters have to face.
In spite of the hardness that characterize life and death matters that face leading actors the end convey a message of hope thanks to the capacity of overcoming those MALAS TEMPORADAS ( bad times).

Special mention to REBELDES e INSUMISAS’ season for offering delightful films. Without forgetting lesbian theme it reminded us the fundamental role of women along cinema’s history
