FILMS IN PROGRESS 9
will take place on Thursday and Friday, March 23rd and 24th 2006 at the Cervantes Institute in Toulouse, as part of the XVII Recontres Cinémas d’Amérique Latine.

Members of the Recontres Cinémas d’Amérique Latine de Toulouse and the Donostia-San Sebastián International Film Festival selection committees viewed 67 films from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Spain, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru and Uruguay, ultimately deciding to include the following projects in the programme:

El baño del Papa, by Enrique Fernández and César Charlone (Uruguay) (Second full-length provisional cut).
In light of a visit by Juan Pablo II to a humble border town in Uruguay, the crowds of locals dream about their needs being fulfilled and the money that is bound to come their way.…


A casa de Alice, by Gustavo Pereira da Silva (Brasil).
A women in her forties and manicurist by profession from a poor neighbourhood of Sao Paulo deals with the hardships of life and the family she is stuck with.

Esas no son penas, by Anahí Hoeneisen and Daniel Andrade (Ecuador). (New version).
A tender story about five women, old school friends who meet up in search of common bonds that have not totally faded with the passing of time.


Familia Tortuga, by Rubén Imaz (Mexico).
On the eve of an important event, the family would have been totally lost if not for the uncle, a very special man dedicated to his jobless, union-organizing widower brother-in-law and nephews.


La Punta del Diablo, by Marcelo Paván (Argentina).
An unexpected piece of news turns the life of a Buenos Aires neurosurgeon upside down. Practically overnight he ends up in a far-off corner of Uruguay, where the locals spend their time shark fishing.


Rabia, by Oscar Cárdenas (Chile).
A young secretary’s search for work can be a full-time job, and can lead to unimaginable situations – in Chile and anywhere else.

These screenings are reserved exclusively for producers, distributors, technical industries, television, festivals and companies which could play a decisive part in helping these projects reach the general public.


Films in Progress 9 Toulouse Prize

For the first time, the CICAE (Confédération Internationale des Cinémas d’Art et Essai) will be giving a Films in Progress 9 Toulouse prize, in a joint effort with Kodak, MacGuff Ligne, Mediavision, Titra Film and the magazine Télérama.

The prize is conceived as a way for the companies to provide the award-winning film with the decisive material support it needs to finish the project, including the production of a subtitled 35 mm copy, and to provide greater visibility backed by a commitment from art house film cinemas.

Films in Progress 10 will take place on September 26th and 27th 2006 as part of the 54th Donostia–San Sebastián International Film Festival.
