FILMS IN PROGRESS 1.

The movies selected from the fifty or so projects received for this first Films in Progress were.

  • Extraño (previously Grieta), by Santiago Loza (Argentina)
  • Historias mínimas, by Carlos Sorín (Argentina)
  • El juego de la silla, by Ana Katz (Argentina)
  • Sudeste, by Sergio Bellotti (Argentina)
  • La espera, by Aldo Garay (Uruguay)
  • La primera noche, by Luis Alberto Restrepo (Colombia)

Sumas y restas, by Víctor Gaviria (Colombia), was presented as an extra in the shape of a first, still partially edited version.

These movies were first screened, on 21 and 22 March at the Cervantes Institute in Toulouse, for a professional audience as part of the 14th Rencontres Cinémas d'Amérique Latine de Toulouse, and subsequently at the 50th Donostia-San Sebastian International Film Festival (19-28 September).

 

FILMS IN PROGRESS 2.

Four of the seven films presented in March at Toulouse as part of this joint initiative were completed and added to the different sections of the San Sebastián Festival:

  • Historias mínimas, by Carlos Sorín (Argentina, Spain), Official Section.
  • La espera, by Aldo Garay (Uruguay), Zabaltegi/New Directors
  • El juego de la silla, by Ana Katz (Argentina), Made in Spanish
  • Sudeste, by Sergio Bellotti (Argentina), Made in Spanish

Two received awards:

Historias mínimas:

  • Special Award from the Jury chaired by Wim Wenders
  • Mention from the International Critics (FIPRESCI)
  • Mention from the World Catholic Association for Communication (SIGNIS, ex OCIC)
  • Award from the International Arthouse Confederation (CICAE)

El juego de la silla.

  • "Made in Spanish" mention from the jury chaired by Francisco Lombardi. This movie won the Casa de América in support of post-production 1st Prize.

Ten films (including two Spanish movies and three unfinished works from the Toulouse selection) were presented at San Sebastián:

  • Ojos que no ven, by Francisco Lombardi (Perú)
  • Capital rancho, by Gabriel Bertini (Argentina)
  • Cautiva, by Gastón Luis Biraben (Argentina)
  • Fuera de juego, by Víctor Arregui (Ecuador)
  • Grieta, by Santiago Loza (Argentina)
  • La primera noche, by Luis Alberto Restrepo (Colombia)
  • Siete días, siete noches, by Joel Cano Obregón (Cuba-France)
  • Sumas y restas, by Víctor Gaviria (Colombia-Spain)
  • Ataúdes de luz, by Nacho Cerdá (Spain)
  • It's for you!, by Bruno Lázaro Pacheco (Spain)

Attending directors and professionals made numerous contacts.

The Ecuadorian film Fuera de juego was chosen by the technical companies present at San Sebastián to ensure its completion.
