FILMS IN PROGRESS 7.
(TOULOUSE, 17 - 18 March)
FILMS IN PROGRESS 7 took place on Thursday
and Friday, March 17th and 18th 2005 at the Cervantes
Institute in Toulouse, as part of the XVII
Recontres Cinémas d’Amérique Latine.
Members of the Recontres Cinémas d’Amérique
Latine de Toulouse and the Donostia-San Sebastián International
Film Festival selection committees viewed 47 films from Argentina,
Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Spain, Mexico,
Peru and Uruguay, ultimately deciding to include the following
projects in the programme:

|
La
demolición, Marcelo Mangone
(Argentina). |
| After “Natural”,
this film is a tragicomic story of a factory in Avellaneda
slated for demolition, with brilliant performances by Enrique
Liporace and Gastón Pauls. |

|
Monobloc, by Luis Ortega (Argentina). |
| The director
of “Caja negra” directs Graciela Borges, Rita
Cortese and Evangelina Salazar in a strange sort of huis
clos in the middle of an inanimate funfair. |

|
La
Perrera, by Manuel Nieto (Uruguay). |
| The director
of the short “Nico y Parker” is the new bet
for the producers of “Whisky”. |

|
El
rey de San Gregorio, by Alfonso Gazitúa
(Chile). |
| Blurring the boundary
between fact and fiction, characters on the border of normalcy
try to live an unlikely love story in a working class neighbourhood. |

|
Sangre, by Amat Escalante (México). |
| This is the story
of the (almost) irrelevant lives of an (almost) eventless
couple as seen by a new filmmaker introduced by the producer
of «Japón». |

|
La
sagrada familia, by Sebastián
Campos (Chile). |
| This young Chilean
director takes a different look at upper class immorality. |

|
El
violin, by Francisco Vargas (México)
(first part). |
| Once upon a time
there was an old, one-armed peasant who travelled around
playing the violin … and transported munitions for
the guerrilla. |
In an effort to support the completion of these independent
films, which are encountering difficulties in filming or post-production,
screenings are reserved for producers, distributors, technical
industries, TV channels, festivals, organisations and companies
active in the different stages of production and post-production,
whom, as a whole, can play a decisive part in helping these
projects reach the general public.
