FILMS IN PROGRESS 9 will take place on Thursday
and Friday, March 23rd and 24th 2006 at the Cervantes
Institute in Toulouse, as part of the XVII
Recontres Cinémas d’Amérique Latine.
Members of the Recontres Cinémas d’Amérique
Latine de Toulouse and the Donostia-San Sebastián International
Film Festival selection committees viewed 67 films from Argentina,
Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Spain, Guatemala,
Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru and Uruguay, ultimately deciding to
include the following projects in the programme:

| In light of a
visit by Juan Pablo II to a humble border town in Uruguay,
the crowds of locals dream about their needs being fulfilled
and the money that is bound to come their way.… |

| A women in her
forties and manicurist by profession from a poor neighbourhood
of Sao Paulo deals with the hardships of life and the family
she is stuck with. |

| A tender story
about five women, old school friends who meet up in search
of common bonds that have not totally faded with the passing
of time. |

piece of news turns the life of a Buenos Aires neurosurgeon
upside down. Practically overnight he ends up in a far-off
corner of Uruguay, where the locals spend their time shark

search for work can be a full-time job, and can lead to
unimaginable situations – in Chile and anywhere else. |
These screenings are reserved exclusively for producers, distributors,
technical industries, television, festivals and companies which
could play a decisive part in helping these projects reach the
general public.

The quality of the six films competing in Films in Progress
9 is remarkable.
A special mention goes to the film FAMILIA
TORTUGA, by Rubén Imaz (Mexico),
The Cine en Construcción 9 Toulouse Award goes
to EL BAÑO DEL PAPA, by Enrique Fernández
and César Charlone (Uruguay).
The International Confederation of Art Cinemas will back the film in the over a thousand AFCAE (French Association
of Art and Experimental Cinemas) cinemas in France (and subsequently
abroad) as part of the CICAE’s Cinediversité initiative
via its Action-Promotion group.
Mac Guff Ligne will take care of the editing
and image effects, the credits and creation of the trailer.
Titra Film will subtitle the film.
Kodak will provide the positive film for the
first copy.
Médiavision will give the winning film
a EUR 20,000 advertising campaign.
Télérama will, as a member of
the media, back the film on its release in France.

FILMS IN PROGRESS 10 will take place
at the 54th San Sebastian International Film Festival on Tuesday
26th and Wednesday 27th September 2006
This joint meeting between the Rencontres Cinémas
d’Amérique Latine in Toulouse and the San Sebastian
International Film Festival, intended to facilitate the completion
of films by independent Latin American and Spanish filmmakers
at the post-production stage, has received in this, its 10th call,
almost 80 projects from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa
Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, Spain, the USA, France, Mexico, Paraguay,
Peru, Sweden and Uruguay.

A Via Lactea, by Lina Chamie (Brazil).
A couple, played by Marco Ricca and Alice Braga, have a violent
phone conversation. They have to talk face to face, but between
them lies the city of Sao Paulo. |
In addition to their exclusive presentation
to professionals from the different stages of the cinematographic
process (producers, distributors, exhibitors, representatives
from the technical industries, televisions, festivals and aid
funds), these films compete for several incentives:
- Films in Progress Technical Industries Award: Estudios Exa,
Kodak (Professional Film Department), Mediapro, Molinare Madrid,
No Problem Sonido, Technicolor Entertainment Services Spain
and Titra Film will assume the pending post-production of
a film until reaching the stage of subtitled 35 mm copy.
- Casa de América aid to post-production, carrying
€9,000.
- CICAE Award carrying promotion of the winning film in France’s
2,000 arthouse cinemas.
- Movies competing in Films in Progress enjoy international
circulation in the Instituto Cervantes world network.

El Premio Cine en Construcción de la Industria consiste en la realización de la postproducción
de la película ganadora, independientemente del grado
o punto en el que se encuentre, y tiene como objetivo la finalización
de la película premiada.
El Premio Cine en Construcción de la Industria se entrega en las ediciones de Cine en Construcción
que se celebran en el Festival Internacional de Cine de Donostia-
San Sebastián.

“UNA NOVIA ERRANTE”, PREMIO CINE EN CONSTRUCCION 10 DE LA INDUSTRIA
La película argentina “Una novia errante”, de Ana Katz recibió el premio Cine en Construcción 10 que el grupo de industrias técnicas colaboradoras otorgan cada año a uno de los filmes presentados en la sección que le da nombre, para que pueda completar su post-producción.
Este premio, que se otorga por quinta vez en el marco del Festival Internacional de Cine de San Sebastián, está dotado con todos los servicios y materiales necesarios para que el film pueda completar su post-producción. Estudios EXA, Molinare, Technicolor Entertainment Services Spain, Kodak (División de Cine Profesional), Titra Film, Mediapro y No Problem Sonido son las empresas colaboradoras que hacen posible este premio.
Este galardón permitirá finalizar los trabajos técnicos de tratamiento de imagen y sonido necesarios para la explotación de “Una Novia errante” en 35mm. en salas comerciales, cine, video, canales de televisión y circuitos de difusión cultural.

Rencontres Cinémas d’Amérique Latine - Toulouse
La Casa de América participa desde el inicio del proyecto Cine en Construcción con el Premio Casa de América / Ayuda a la Post-Producción del Cine Latinoamericano, dotado por una cuantía de 9,000 €.
Esta iniciativa del Festival Internacional de Cine de Donostia - San Sebastián y de las Rencontres Cinémas d’Amérique Latine de Toulouse coincide plenamente con los propósitos y naturaleza del trabajo de Casa de América.
Además, la Casa de América colabora con el Festival para que los directores puedan estar presentes con sus proyectos.
Desde el 2002 nuestra Institución ha concedido el Premio Casa de América / Ayuda a la Post-Producción del Cine Latinoamericano a: El juego de la silla (Argentina) de Ana Katz, La sombra del caminante de Ciro Guerra (Colombia), Alma Mater (Uruguay), de Álvaro Buela y El violín de Francisco Vargas (México).
Este año, en la 54 edición del Festival Internacional de Cine de Donostia-San Sebastián, lo concede al film brasileño A via lactea de Lina Chamie.
Casa de América se propone continuar otorgando la ayuda a una de las películas presentadas en Cine en Construcción, y a apoyar este proyecto en sus diversas facetas, por considerar esta iniciativa de importancia clave para el desarrollo del cine latinoamericano.

PREMIO CICAE
Confederación Internacional de Cines de Artes y Ensayo
El jurado ha encontrado mucha dificultad a la hora de otorgar su premio ya que la mayoría de las películas en "Cine en Construcción" son de gran calidad.
El jurado decidió unanimamente otorgar el premio CICAE de los cines de arte y ensayo a "A Casa de Alice", de Chico Teixera, por la buena realización consiguiendo demostrar de manera muy auténtica la vida de una familia brasileña, cuyos miembros aunque juntos, viven en la soledad, y por la buena actuación de todos los caracteres y las situaciones planteadas.

PREMIO TVE
TVE, en su interés de colaborar con el Festival de cine de Donostia-San Sebastián, y en particular con la sección Cine en Construcción, ha decidido repartir el premio consistente en el acuerdo de comprar los derechos para el territorio de España y Andorra que contempla la posibilidad de emisión en televisión (cualquier tipo de formato o sistema de emisión y reproducción). Estos derechos se fijarán y concretarán con las personas o entidades autoras de las propiedades correspondientes a la película ganadora.
En este año 2006 el premio de TVE ha sido concedido a las películas “Fiestapatria“ de Luis Vera Vargas y “A casa de Alice”, de Chico Teixeira.
