In September 2005, the San Sebastian International Film Festival, the Amiens International Film Festival and the Fribourg International Film Festival launched Cinema in Motion, a new yearly professional rendezvous for filmmakers from the Maghreb and Portuguese-speaking African countries.
Cinema in Motion 3, to take place in San Sebastian on Monday, 24th September 2007, will include two important new features:
- The programme will exclusively comprise feature films in the process of completing their filming or at the post-production stage.
- Cinema in Motion will open its doors to new cinematographies: directors from Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine and Syria will be able to present their candidatures alongside those from Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia and Portuguese-speaking African countries.
The directors and/or producers of the selected films will have the opportunity to explain their strong points to accredited professionals from all sectors at the San Sebastian Festival Sales Office.
Cinema in Motion proposes:
- a specific space for professionals from these countries at the San Sebastian Festival and its Sales Office at which to learn more about their activities;
- a European dimension for this rendezvous by means of close collaboration with the Amiens and Fribourg Festivals, and with Spanish, French, Swiss and Portuguese institutions;
- an opportunity for films completing their filming or at the post-production stage to make their way towards the public based on a combination of screenings specially reserved for professionals and material aid granted by the technical industries;
- new perspectives of diffusion and contacts between Africa and Latin America in collaboration with the Tarifa African Film Festival.
Different kinds of specific aid are anticipated at Cinema in Motion 3:
- One of the films proposed will receive from the French CNC the sum of €15,000 for post-production in Europe. Mixing work for the value of €15,000 will be offered by the Mactari mixing auditorium in Paris. Titra Film will provide French subtitling and Mikros Image a post-production service adapted to the specific needs of the chosen film. Amiens Festival will give a 35 mm copy of the film.
- One of the films proposed will receive the Swiss Effects and Kodak Suisse Award consisting of an enlargement (conversion from digital support to 35 mm film, for an approximate value of €30,000). Titra Film will provide French subtitling. The Fribourg Festival will offer a 35 mm copy of the film.
- The Centre Cinématographique Marocain will propose a post-production service to be defined according to the specific needs of the chosen film.
- The filmmakers invited to present their films at Cinema in Motion will have the opportunity to subsequently participate in two yearly tours, one of Latin America, organised by the San Sebastian and Tarifa Festivals, and the other by the international Instituto Cervantes network.
Deadline for registering candidatures and receiving material at the San Sebastian International Film Festival: 13th July 2007
