HONORARY GOLDEN SHELL TO CARLOS SAURA

Yesterday, the Victoria Eugenia Theatre was witness to and setting for the surprise tribute paid by San Sebastian Festival to Carlos Saura.

A night which was already set to be special with presentation of the film Fados, followed by a concert given by the fado singers Mariza, Camané and Carlos do Carmo, was crowned with emotion when Diego Galán announced to a surprised Carlos Saura that he was to receive an honorary Golden Shell. Diego Galán himself presented the award before loud audience applause to a Saura with a deeply moved smile on his face.

This is the second time that San Sebastian Festival has granted this award to a film director. It’s only former recipient is Luis Buñuel, who received the tribute in 1981.
