Industry Award. The companies Estudios Exa, Kodak (División de Cine Profesional), Mediapro, Molinare Madrid, No Problem Sonido, Technicolor Entertainment Services Spain and Titra Film will jointly assume the post-production of a selected film.

The TVE Award, consisting of the purchase of the broadcasting rights for one of the selected films.

The Casa de América Aid to Post-production Award, carrying €10,000 gross.
Casa de América Award for Aid to the Post-production of Latin American Films includes a cash prize of €9,000 euros (gross). www.casamerica.es
Note: All cash prizes are subject to tax according to current law and international agreements signed with each country.

The Films in Progress Industry Award Regulations

SPONSORING COMPANIES AND THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS

The basic aim of the Films in Progress Industry Award is completion of the film receiving the award and therefore consists of post-production of the winning work, no matter what the stage of its making.

The Films in Progress Industry Award is granted at the versions of Films in Progress taking place at the International Film Festival.

The Award is sponsored by the following companies:

  • KODAK S.A - Which will provide all necessary 35mm image and sound material.
  • TECHNICOLOR ENTERTAINMENT SERVICES SPAIN S.L - Will provide all of the laboratory processes required to obtain: 1.- An edited original negative or an original camera negative according to the following cases: a) when the film has been shot in 35 mm (if no change of format is required), it will receive an edited original negative. b) when the film has been shot in other formats (video, Super 16 mm, etc.), it will receive an original camera negative in 35 mm. 2.- A sound negative in 35 mm 3.- A silent copy in 35 mm 4.- A 1st standard original version copy in 35 mm. 5.- A 2nd standard subtitled version copy in 35 mm.
  • EXA S.A – Will provide the Foley recording, Dolby Digital mixing, M&E and the corresponding Dolby license.
  • MOLINARE S.A.U – Will provide the image postproduction.
  • NO PROBLEM SONIDO – Will provide the sound editing.
  • TITRA FILM – Will provide the English or, where appropriate, Spanish subtitles in 35mm.
  • MEDIAPRODUCCIÓN S.L (MEDIAPRO) – Will coordinate the post-production work.

The winning production company will receive the following from among the material generated:

  • An edited original negative or a 35 mm original camera negative in compliance with section 1 of Technicolor works.
  • An original language copy in 35 mm
  • A subtitled copy in 35 mm
  • A sound negative of the film in 35 mm
  • A sound mixing master and M&E (Hi-8 tapes)

 

 JURY AND PRESENTATION

The Jury consists of one representative from each of the sponsoring companies.

The sponsoring companies shall take their decision once the Jury has viewed the films and after having examined the situation of each of the projects presented in Films in Progress.

A project must receive at least half of the votes plus one in order to win the Award.

The Jury’s decision is final.

The Award will be presented at the International Film Festival.

 

 CONDITIONS

Simply presenting projects to compete for the Films in Progress Industry Award implies acceptance by the winning production company of these rules, with no limitations or restrictions of any kind.

Once the Award has been accepted, the winning production company shall sign a financial co-production contract with Mediaproducción S.L (Mediapro), as the production company designated by the sponsors, in order that the film may apply for Spanish nationality and therefore favour its commercial distribution in Spain. This contract shall be signed within a period of three months and always prior to starting the post-production work.

The winning production company shall exclusively grant the production company designated by the sponsoring companies all of the rights to commercially exploit the film in Spain and Andorra for the maximum amount of time stipulated in the Amended Copyright Law and in all media (cinemas, non-film theatres, terrestrial and paying TV, video, in any format, Internet, derived and subsidiary exploitations, etc.), guaranteeing that it holds the ownership to these rights and that it has the power to grant them as mentioned above.

The winning production company undertakes to mention the use of KODAK material on all international distribution contracts and to suggest that copies be made, wherever possible, at the TECHNICOLOR ENTERTAINMENT SERVICES SPAIN laboratories.

Any of the sponsoring companies can use the title of the film and the film itself, directly or indirectly, for their own promotion and advertising simply by notifying the winning production company.

The Films in Progress Industry Award must be mentioned in the opening credits of the winning film, including the logos of the sponsoring companies, and in all related promotional material and press articles.

The winning production company must deliver all of the material required to carry out the post-production work included in the Award before 15 December of the year in which the Award is granted.

The maximum deadline for completion of the post-production work included in the Award is 31 July of the year following the one in which the Award is granted.
