In barely four years of existence, the International Film School
Meeting has made a name for itself at the San Sebastian International
Film Festival as a venue at which to dynamically exchange experiences
while learning more about audiovisuals.
The number of participating centres has grown continually, coming
to 17 this year with the incorporation among others of students
from three new Latin American countries: Argentina, Brazil and
Cuba.
The winning movie of the CineFundación Award at Cannes
Festival and the first feature film made by the youngsters at
Orson The Kid close this year’s Meeting, the principal
feature of which is its wide variety of pedagogical activities,
including a world premier preview of the Atelier/Masterclass
work prior to its broadcast on the ARTE network.
During these two extremely busy days, youngsters interested
in learning more about film technique and language have the
opportunity to present a selection of their study work within
the framework of one of the most important international festivals.
They can also make comments on them at lively sessions open
to the public and Festival guests, before their teachers, who
can therefore explain the pedagogical principles of their centres.
The Festival has for the first time started to apply selection
criteria to the Meeting as it does to its other sections: both
the Sales Office and the Film Archive open their doors to the
work presented by the schools while a specific jury will be
created consisting of students from the participating schools
and chaired by the Spanish actress Assumpta Serna, godmother
of an original experience to be discovered at the Meeting itself.
The jury will choose the winner of the European network TV5
Award aimed at improving the visibility of these first works
by the moviemakers of the future.
On the occasion of its 20th anniversary, the Centre d’Estudis
Cinematogràfics de Catalunya invites one of the young
directors selected this year to film a 35 mm movie in Barcelona;
a fantastic gift.
These are only some of the features of the IV International
Film School Meeting offering more than one surprise on 22 and
23 September at the Príncipe Cinemas.

TV5 AWARD
The International Jury of the IV Edition of Film Schools, consisting
of 16 schools and presided over by actress Assumpta Serna, has
granted the TV5 Award to the film 2 + 2 = 5 by Jorge Carrascosa
(CECC-Centre d’Estudis Cinematogràfics de Catalunya,
Barcelona).
The award carries a cash prize of 2,000 euros for the promotion
and dissemination of the winning film and a digital camera for
the director of the winning film.
The Jury has also awarded a special mention to the film Les
Petits Producteurs de la Sierra, by Sandra Blondel and Pascal
Henniquin (Oreleis de Paris – Regards jeunes sur la cité,
Paris).
TV5 will provide the directors of the film with a digital camera.
aiTe QUIERO VER! AWARD OF THE SPANISH ASSOCIATION OF
TECHNICAL AUDIOVISUAL INDUSTRIES
The purpose of this first-time award, aimed at highlighting
the technical aspects of a film, has been granted to the school
Orson the Kid /Escuela de Cine para Niños, Madrid.
aiTe will cover the cost of post-production services for El
Guardavías through the first standard copy.
CECC-Centre d’Estudis Cinematogràfics
de Catalunya has decided to award a prize to
mark the 20th anniversary of its foundation. The award is bestowed
to Cache Ta Joie, by Jean-Baptiste de Laubier (la Fémis,
Paris).
The prize will consist of a new 35 mm short film project of
no more than 15 minutes in duration produced by Grup Cinema
Art, S.L., the production company associated with CECC. The
project will be filmed in Barcelona and/or the surrounding area
with participation by students from the school.
"TV5 se compromete a participar en los gastos de promoción
y difusión de la película ganadora con una aportación
de 2.000 euros". a cambio, el productor de la película
se compromete a mencionar a TV5 en todos sus soportes de comunicación
y a mencionar el "Premio TV5 de Escuelas de Cine / 53°
Festival Internacional de San Sebastián" en los
créditos y carteles de la película.
Por otra parte, a modo de estímulo concreto a los futuros
cineastas, TV5 ha decidido ofrecer una cámara digital
al director de la película premiada.
"TV5 s'engage à participer aux frais de promotion
et de diffusion du film lauréat à hauteur de 2000
euros". En contrepartie le producteur du film s'engage
à mentionner TV5 sur tous ses supports de communication
et à mentionner le "Prix TV5 des Ecoles de Cinéma
/ 53e Festival International de San Sebastian, 2005" sur
le générique et affiches du film.
D'autre part, dans le but de stimuler de façon plus concrète
les futurs cinéastes, TV5 a décidé d'offrir
une caméra digitale au réalisateur du film primé.

dentro del IV Encuentro Internacional de Escuelas de Cine.

Estimados amigos,
El centre d'Estudis Cinematogràfics de Catalunya (C.E.C.C.),
en el año de su veinte aniversario, tiene el placer de
anunciar que durante el próximo Festival Internacional
de San Sebastián, dentro del IV Encuentro Internacional
de Escuelas de Cine, concederá un premio al mejor cortometraje
a competición con un jurado compuesto por miembros de
la escuela. El premio al realizador que resulte ganador consistirá
en un nuevo proyecto de cortometraje en 35 mm. producido por
Grup Cinema Art, S.L., la productora asociada al CECC, de una
extensión máxima de quince minutos y que se deberá
filmar en Barcelona y/o alrededores con la participación
de alumnos del centro.
En 20 años de historia el CECC, a través de su
productora Grup Cinema Art, S.L., ha producido: 5 largometrajes
en 35 mm realizados íntegramente por alumnos, que han
estado seleccionados en festivales como Karlovy Vary, Figueira
da Foz y Roma Film Festival, entre otros; 11 largometrajes realizados
por profesores del centro con la participación de alumnado,
seleccionados en festivales como Cannes, Venecia, Ámsterdam(Premio
Joris Ivens Award), San Sebastián, Sitges (Premio de
la Crítica y Premio Méliès de Plata), Figueira
da Foz (Premio Especial Placa de Plata), Oporto (Méliès
de Oro) y Montreal, entre otros; más de 200 cortometrajes
realizados por alumnos en formato cinematográfico, seleccionados
en 150 festivales nacionales e internacionales galardonados
con más de 60 premios y más de 1000 cortometrajes
en formato digital.
En los últimos años de la escuela ha obtenido
un Premio Goya como Mejor Cortometraje Documental (Los niños
del Nepal, 2003), tres nominaciones al Goya como Mejor Cortometraje
de Ficción (por los films Patesnak. Un cuento de Navidad
(1998), Cara Sucia (2004) y Viernes (2004)- y una nominación
al Goya como Mejor Cortometraje Documental (El olvido de la
memoria, 1999). El año pasado la escuela ganó
el Encuentro Internacional de III Escuelas de cine de San Sebastián
con el cortometraje Al Final (2003).
