Avey Bullard, president of the furniture company Tredway, has just suffered a heart attack on leaving his office. Inmediately, the five vicepresidents of the company get ready to fight for his succession. Walling, the only one that isn't interested in the post, sees with disgust that if he does not enter the fight, Shaw, one of the candidates, is going to lead the company to chaos.
