Seven films presented at the last two editions of the San Sebastian Festival have landed 16 accolades at the 31st Goya Awards.
The film to land most awards was A Monster Calls, which had its European premiere in the Official Selection out of competition. Its nine Goyas correspond to the categories of Best Director (J.A. Bayona), Best Cinematography (Óscar Faura), Best Production Supervision (Sandra Hermida), Best Art Direction (Eugenio Caballero), Best Editing (Bernat Vilaplana and Jaume Martí), Best Original Score (Fernando Velázquez, who mentioned his travelling companions, the Basque National Orchestra and the Orfeón Donostiarra choir), Best Special Effects, (Pau Costa and Félix Bergés), Best Sound (Peter Glossop, Oriol Tarragó and Marc Orts) and Best Makeup and Hairstyles (Marese Langan and David Martí).
Tarde para la ira (The Fury of a Patient Man), which premiered in the Orizzonti section at the Venice Festival, bagged the Goya for Best Film, in addition to the awards for Best New Director (Raúl Arévalo), Best Original Screenplay (Arévalo and David Pulido) and Best Supporting Actor (Manolo Solo).
El hombre de las mil caras (Smoke & Mirrors), which competed in the Official Selection in San Sebastian where it won the Silver Shell for Best Actor (Eduard Fernández), landed two awards: Best Adapted Screenplay (Alberto Rodríguez and Rafael Cobos) and Best New Actor (Carlos Santos).
Roberto Álamo received the Best Actor Goya for his work in Que Dios nos perdone, also premiered in the Official Selection at the Festival, where it was acclaimed with the Best Screenplay Award (Rodrigo Sorogoyen and Isabel Peña).
Psiconautas, los niños olvidados (Psychonauts, the Forgotten Children), which had its world premiere in the Zabaltegi section at the Festival’s 63rd edition, won the Goya for Best Animated Film.
Elle, screened in the Pearls section following its premiere at the Cannes Festival, was chosen as Best European Film.
Julieta, selected for Made in Spain, was acknowledged with the Best Actress Award for Emma Suárez. The Olive Tree / Der Olivenbaum, also presented in Made in Spain, carried off the Best New Actress award for the work of Anna Castillo.
