President
Jonás Trueba (Madrid) has competed in San Sebastián Festival’s Official Selection with La reconquista / The Reconquest (2016) and Quién lo impide / Who’s Stopping Us (2021), recipient of the Silver Shell for Best Supporting Performance going to the entire cast, and of the FIPRESCI Prize. It went on to land the Goya for Best Documentary.
He is also the author of the films Todas las canciones hablan de mí / Every Song is About Me (Made in Spain, 2010); Miniaturas (2011), Los ilusos / The Wishful Thinkers (Made in Spain, 2013), Los exiliados románticos / The Romantic Exiles (2015); Special Jury Prize in Málaga; La virgen de agosto / The August Virgin (Made in Spain, 2019), which received a Special Jury Prize in Karlovy Vary; and Volveréis / The Other Way Around (Made in Spain, 2024), Europa Cinemas Label Award for Best European Film at the Quinzaine des Cinéastes in Cannes.
He was the co-writer of Más pena que Gloria / No Pain, No Gain (Víctor García León, Made in Spanish, 2000), Vete de mí / Go Away From Me (Víctor García León, 2005), winner in San Sebastián of the Silver Shell for Best Actor (Juan Diego), and El baile de la victoria / The Dancer and the Thief (Fernando Trueba, 2009), presented out of competition in the Official Selection.
He is the founder of Los ilusos films S.L., the production company with which he has made all of his films, and with which he has also produced Las chicas están bien / The Girls Are Alright (Itsaso Arana, Made in Spain, 2023), and Historias del buen valle / Good Valley Stories (José Luis Guerin, 2025), a competitor in this year’s Official Selection.
He is author of the books Las ilusiones and El viento sopla donde quiere, and has written about the cinema in various news media. He worked for the Plot Ediciones publishing house and was guest editor for the Caballo de Troya label in 2021 and 2022.
