Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Xabier Arakistain (Madrid 1966) is an art curator. Since Arakistain’s first exhibition, Trans Sexual Express, Arakistain has incorporated the category of sex as a curatorial criterion. Arakistain has curated retrospectives dedicated to crucial artists of Feminist Art, such as Margaret Harrison, Judy Chicago and Guerrilla Girls, as well as the collective exhibitions The Furious Gaze, Kick in the Eye, Eight Feminist Strategies to Interrupt the Male Gaze and Kiss Bang, 45 Years of Art and Feminism at institutions such as the BBAA Museum in Bilbao, Azkuna Zentroa, CAPC, FRAC Lorraine, Whitechapel Gallery and the Matadero Madrid.
Since 2008, Arakistain has been co-directing the yearly interdisciplinary, international and intergenerational course Artistic Production and the Feminist Theory of Art. Arakistain was the Director of the Montehermoso Cultural Centre from 2007 to 2011, making it a pioneering institution in the development and application of policies on sexual equality in the fields of contemporary art, thought and culture.
Arakistain has given lectures at the Tate Modern, the Royal College of Art, the EHESS, the Museum of Applied Arts (MAK) and the Kunsthalle in Vienna, the 8th Berlin Biennale, the Brooklyn Museum and the New Museum, the University Museum of Contemporary Art (MUAC), the University of Costa Rica, the Museum of Fine Arts in Santiago de Chile and the Reina Sofia National Art Museum (MNCARS), amongst other institutions. Arakistain has recently curated, for the Basque Museum of Contemporary Art, ARTIUM, The Rapture of Iván Zulueta, the most complete retrospective ever dedicated to the filmmaker and artist from San Sebastián.
