Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
At the press conference for Historias del buen valle / Good Valley Stories, José Luis Guerin reflected on his long-awaited return to the big screen, echoing the emotional reunion of Victor Erice with the Festival two years ago. Guerin praised Erice as an inspiring figure for a generation of Spanish filmmakers, himself included. His return, encouraged by filmmaker Jonás Trueba, was made possible by the independent production company Los Ilusos, which he credits for his creative revival. What began as a commission from the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art gradually evolved into a deeper connection with the hidden Vallbona neighbourhood.
The film, crafted as a true “work in progress,” tenderly portrays the area, where diverse communities intersect. Guerin filmed local residents and observed everyday life through Super 8, capturing a neighbourhood scarred by highways and railways, yet filled with life, music, and shared stories. Guerin’s work is both a personal exploration of Vallbona’s complexities and a broader meditation on memory, identity, and the fluid, ever-changing nature of filmmaking itself.
