Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Mark Strong, one of the UK’s most successful actors, with films including Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Zero Dark Thirty and the Kingsman series, shares his thoughts as a jury member for the Official Selection at the Festival. Having previously visited the city with his family, Strong was thrilled to return, this time to evaluate seventeen films. “It’s been fascinating. Comparing different films so quickly is something I’ve never done before,” he said. He particularly appreciates entering the screenings without prior knowledge, allowing the films to speak for themselves. “These films are so new; they have to work on you.” Although he can’t reveal specific favourites, Strong finds them all surprising in their own way. As an actor, he admits being particularly drawn to performances but also gained a new appreciation for the visual and design elements of filmmaking. Despite the exhausting schedule, he values the responsibility of “doing every film justice,” and is already eager to repeat the experience. On the merging of cinema and TV, Strong firmly believes “the big screen demands a story to earn the right to be on a big screen.”
