Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
27 Noches, by the Uruguayan Daniel Hendler, opening the Official Section yesterday, tells the story of Martha (Marilú Marini), an openhanded patron admitted to a psychiatric clinic by her daughters to control her fortune. The expert Casares (Hendler himself), as in a detective comedy, is tasked with finding out if she suffers from dementia.
For the team, the challenge was to talk about health and why “some people are excluded from society and its norms”, says Hendler, and the meaning of family. “Martha is a rocker who chooses to cross the line with her friends as her true family and main circle”, he adds.
For Carla Peterson, playing one of Martha’s daughters, “understanding their relationship was key. Love was never a priority between them”. Producer Agustina Llambí Campbel confessed “we love making films as a family. Netflix has given us the chance to be free to put together our team and cast”. Fellow producer and acclaimed director Santiago Mitre said “the situation in Argentina is alarming; no films have been produced since this government came to power”.
