Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
In Couture, the French director Alice Winocour and Angelina Jolie weave a moving and resounding exploration of womanhood, illness, and resilience set against the backdrop of Paris Fashion Week. Jolie, who was deeply touched by the script, said that “there is a wish to live free of suffering in human beings. Being able to work on this film together and sharing it with you is healing”. The film follows Maxine, a filmmaker diagnosed with breast cancer, and Ada, a South Sudanese model navigating the alien world of fashion. Winocour calls the film “a memento mori, a frantic race against time.”
Jolie, who wore her late mother's necklace during filming, said “I wish my mom had this community. She would’ve told Maxine to live every day, not take any moment for granted.” For newcomer Anyier Amei, “It’s the first time you see fashion’s industry through a young African woman’s eyes.”
Jolie claimed “women need to remind and be reminded we can continue to live and be desired as a woman”. Couture is about connection and shared vulnerability. “Sharing teaches. You’re not alone. We can all be strong women together,” said Winocour, to the applause of all the women in the audience.
