Universae, the Higher Institute of Vocational Education, presents its new Film Lab, a project aiming to foster training and creative activities linked to the audiovisual world throughout the year. These activities include workshops, screening cycles and master classes. To open this initiative, the education centre launches its Universae Film Lab: SSIFF Short Film Competition, in the framework of the Made in Spain section of the San Sebastián Festival, of which Universae is a sponsor.
Under the motto of Education and Society, the competition aims to recognise short films which, from an artistic and critical stance, explore the impact of education on society.
The finalist shorts will screen at the San Sebastián Festival, as part of the Made in Spain section, where a prestigious jury of industry professionals will decide the winner. The initiative aspires to draw attention to emerging talent in the audiovisual world, giving young creators the chance to show their work at an event of international standing, the San Sebastian Festival. By doing this, Universae strengthens its commitment to the cultural, educational and creative development of the new generations.
“Through our Film Lab, we advocate an educational model which extends beyond the classroom, offering real experiences that connect with the professional world and the audiovisual sector”, said Manuel Gazapo, director of Institutional Relations at Universae. “With this first action, the Universae Film Lab: SSIFF Short Film Competition, we endeavour on the one hand to promote new voices in the film world and, on the other, to provide them with a platform on which to make themselves known by linking their works to a reference event in the industry such as the San Sebastian Festival”, he added.
Free of charge and open to the general public from this Wednesday (23 July) until 1 September), the call is for all people who are currently studying or who have completed their studies in the audiovisual field in the last five years. The competition comes with three awards: the Universae Grand Prix, carrying 2,500 euros; the Social Transformation Award, with 1,000 euros, and the Audience Award, which includes a cash prize of 500 euros.
