For the third year running, the San Sebastián Festival, the Tabakalera International Centre for Contemporary Culture and the Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola will foster an initiative focused on the filmmakers of today and tomorrow. Kabia is a day dedicated to emerging film talent taking the shape on Monday 22nd of two events at the Tabakalera film and audiovisual lab: Kabia Networking (17:00-19:00), followed by a cocktail party (19:30-23_00). Preceding the networking activity will be the launch of the book celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Ikusmira Berriak residencies programme.
Both proposals will bring teams from films participating in Nest (the SSIFF’s competitive selection of shorts by film students) together with residents of the Ikusmira Berriak programme and the Tabakalera community: women filmmakers selected for Noka and students from the Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola. The event will also welcome filmmakers from Mannheim’s Cutting Edge Camp. The purpose of Kabia is to create a connection between the communities involved in these programmes and sections in order that they may exchange ideas, share projects and enjoy direct access to industry professionals selected for their different profiles: from production, festival programmers and development programmes and labs, to funds and grants, so that they can give them both feedback and access to a network of direct contacts thanks to the framework offered by the San Sebastián Festival. Amongst those invited this year are representatives of the Sundance Festival, Tribeca, Rotterdam, Giornate degli Autori, Locarno’s Open Doors, Cinema du Réel and the Cannes Semaine de la Critique.
Entry is with an invitation.
In addition, for the third year running, the Festival and the Tabakalera International Centre for Contemporary Culture bring the Keler Topagune meeting point, open from Monday 22 to Thursday 25 September (19:30-23:00) in the Tabakalera film and audiovisual lab. The initiative, sponsored by Keler and with the collaboration of BIME, is for filmmakers, film industry professionals and journalists, all Festival passholders, particularly those whose work focuses on programmes and sections promoted by the Festival and Tabakalera.
The Keler Topagunea will acquire a different nature on Monday 22 and Thursday 25. While on Monday 22 it will be dedicated to Kabia, the event for up-and-coming filmmaking talents and particularly its networking activity, on Thursday 25 it will host BIME, the leading Ibero-American music industry get-together. Running yearly in Bilbao and Bogotá, BIME serves as a solid international bridge providing a gateway between Europe and America and is an essential space for anticipating trends, connecting territories and professionals and understanding the evolution of the global music ecosystem. The collaboration with BIME will also translate into a daily programme of music brought by DJs: ines on the 22nd; Ope Loeb on the 23rd; Beltranz on the 24th, and Mario Azurza on the 25th.
Entry is with the Festival pass.
