Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Icelandic filmmaker and multidisciplinary artist Hlynur Pálmason’s latest work, Ástin sem eftir er / The Love That Remains, arrives at Perlak after its world premiere at Cannes. Delving into the fleeting nature of time, the film was inspired by Pálmason’s own experiences with marriage and parenthood. It was crafted during nearly eight years, beginning with the director’s 2017 short film, featuring his children building a tree house. This intimate project led him to explore the value of the time shared with our loved ones.
Reflecting on his use of his own children in the film, he notes they bring a raw, unfiltered energy enhancing the portrayal of the family. The simplicity and emotional depth of his work are key to his style, which he attributes to the space and time given to the creative process. This film is also linked to Pálmason’s other artistic ventures, including an exhibition at Tabakalera, where photographs, sculptures, and installations parallel the film’s themes. Pálmason conceives cinema and visual art as part of the same creative exploration.
