Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Based on the novel of the same name by Camilo Castelo Branco, Misterios de Lisboa is competing in the Official Section and at 256 minutes is one of the longest films ever shown at the festival. The Chilean Director, Raúl Ruiz, goes back to the 19th century and plunges the audience into a whirlwind of adventures, coincidences, violent passions and vengeance that takes them from Portugal all the way to Brazil. After it had been screened Ruiz explained that the advantage of making such a long film was that “it wasn’t going to attract big crowds” This wasn’t his aim. What he wanted to do was “create emotion” and that is why he opted for a film that had “a space where you could breathe and think.”
