Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
In his debut as a documentary filmmaker, artist Pierre Thoretton has dealt with the love story between Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé by focusing on the auction of their art collection. "In the first place, I wanted to produce a documentary on the collection, but I realized that the objects were not important. What was really important were the stories behind this" For Thoretton, the most fascinating thing about the story is that couple lived together and loved each other for 50 years.
Pierre Bergé narrates his live with the famous designer through the stories behind the objects that are going to auction. He decided to sell all these objects because the art collection lost all its meaning with Saint Laurent’s death.“It’s something they had built up together and so it made complete sense to Bergé to sell it”, the filmmaker explains. It’s a story of love and nostalgia, of how to get over the death of someone close to you.“There is nothing dearer than someone you love”, Thoretten says.
