Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Today the Spanish Cooperation Agency (AECID) announced the winning title of the I Cooperación Española Award from among the eight competing Ibero-American films presented in the Official Selection, New Directors and Horizontes Latinos sections at the 63rd San Sebastian Festival.
A jury chaired by Rubén López Pulido (Communications Unit Director at AECID) alongside fellow members Jaione Askasibar (Director of Communication and Image at Donostia Kultura) and Pablo Berástegui (Director General of San Sebastian, European Capital of Culture 2016) have decided to give their Award to the César Augusto Acevedo’s La tierra y la sombra, as the Ibero-American film that best contributes to human development, the eradication of poverty and the full exercise of human rights.
In the Jury’s opinion, the film La tierra y la sombra captures the values that promote human development and turn the focus on people, making them the leading players of their own destiny. It achieves all of this with a demanding aesthetic and formal approach that remains in place well beyond the first viewing.
La tierra y la sombra participated in 2013 in the II Europe-Latin America Co-production Forum at the San Sebastian Festival, where it earned a special mention. It was selected for the Cannes' Critics Week where it won the Caméra d’Or.
The Cooperación Española Award represents a new collaboration between the San Sebastian Festival and the Spanish Cooperation Agency (AECID) with the aim of strengthening the commitment of both parties to working jointly with the Ibero-American audiovisual industry in order to promote new talents, foster the production of film projects and strengthen the commercialisation and internationalisation of the films.
