Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
Having won the Golden Shell on two occasions, in 2011 for Los pasos dobles and in 2018 for Entre dos aguas, Isaki Lacuesta is back at the Festival this year to present Un año, una noche in the Perlas section, based on the book “Peace, love and death metal” by Ramón Gonzalez, a survivor of the attack on the Bataclán theatre in November 2015. The director quoted Stendhal to justify his viewpoint when it came to tackling the story. “He said that telling the story of the battle of Waterloo from the inside condemned you to being unable to see beyond the fog of the battle; that’s why if you want to approach a historical event, I think that it is almost compulsory to take an intimate approach to it. However, Lacuesta refused to define the terrorist attacks in Paris in 2015 purely as an event, perhaps because it is something relatively recent in our history whose wounds still haven’t healed.
