Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
J.A. Bayona’s latest film La sociedad de la nieve was screened yesterday in the Perlak section. It deals with the tragic situation faced by a group of Uruguayan rugby players forced to survive in extreme conditions after their plane crashed in the Andes in 1972. Bayona acknowledged that the story had been told before, but that he had shifted the perspective of the film so that this time it was the dead who told us the story. Normally associated with action films, this project is above all a film about emotions. As the director explained: “I didn’t want to structure the story based on what the characters do, but on what they feel”. He’s delighted that it has been selected to represent Spain at the Oscars which will raise the international profile of the film and stresses that ten years ago it would have been impossible to shoot a big-budget film like this in Spanish.
