'Tasio' (Montxo Armendáriz, 1984), restored by the Basque Film Archive, has been selected for Cannes and will open the Klasikoak section of the San Sebastian Festival
The feature film by the director from Navarre has been restored by the L'immagine Ritrovata laboratories in Bologna
The San Sebastián Festival and the Basque Film Archive will be offering more than 120 screenings of classic cinema in Klasikoak
The initiative takes the form of a classic film festival that will be extended in time, between April and September, and in space, with screenings in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Bilbao, San Sebastián, Pamplona and Saint-Jean-de-Luz
Klasikoak will recover ‘The Red Angel’ (Yasuzo Masumura), ‘Aloïse’ (Liliane de Kermadec), ‘Fúria espanyola’ (Francesc Betriu), ‘Record of a Tenement Gentleman’ (Yasujiro Ozu), ‘Nueve reinas’ (Fabián Bielinsky) and ‘Principio y fin’ (Arturo Ripstein)
The section will also feature the premieres of two hitherto unseen films: ‘Festival en las entrañas’, by José Val del Omar, and ‘El realismo socialista / Socialist Realism’, by Raúl Ruiz and Valeria Sarmiento
The Artxiboa website includes a virtual exhibition that reflects Val del Omar's relationship with the Festival through his correspondence
