WIP Latam to present six films by Tatiana Huezo, Mariano Luque, Juan Sebastián Mesa, Matías Italo Scarvaci, Beatriz Seigner and Tiagx Vélez
The films come from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and México
Three of the proposals, ‘Viajes y placeres’, ‘Lovers Go Home!’ and ‘O último canto dos passaros’, were presented at the project stage in the Europe-Latin America Co-Production Forum

Galerna, by Tatiana Huezo; Viajes y placeres / Travel & Pleasure, by Mariano Luque; Lovers Go Home!, by Juan Sebastián Mesa; La cuestión criminal / The Criminal Matter, by Matías italo Scarvaci; O último canto dos pássaros / The Last Song of the Birds, by Beatriz Seigner; and Todos los lugares a donde ir / All the Places to Go, by Tiagx Vélez are the six Latin American feature films at the post-production stage to be presented to an audience of professionals in the framework of Industry activities at the 74th San Sebastián Festival.
On her fourth visit to the San Sebastián Festival, Tatiana Huezo will present Galerna, her latest feature film, following the journey of two people from different backgrounds as they travel through Mexico looking for non-professional actors for a sci-fi project. She has participated in the Festival with El lugar más pequeño / The Tiniest Place (2011), in the 4+1: Contemporary Mexican Cinema retrospective, and in Horizontes Latinos with Noche de fuego / Prayers for the Stolen (Horizontes Award, 2021) and El eco / The Echo (2023).
The Argentinian filmmaker Mariano Luque, who participated in Horizontes Latinos with Salsipuedes (2012), will show his third feature film, Viajes y placeres / Travel & Pleasure, selected for the Europe-Latin America Co-Production Forum 2022 with the working title of Inspección en la Tierra. Marcelo Subiotto (Silver Shell for Best Leading Performance for Puan in 2023) plays a waning TV presenter who convinces a friend, played by Eugenia Alonso, to accompany him on a trip to record a new episode of his programme, only to discover extraterrestrial eggs.
Also selected for the Forum is Lovers Go Home!, the third film from Juan Sebastián Mesa, who competed in New Directors in 2021 with La Roya / The Rust. In his latest proposal, the Colombian director narrates the virtual relationship between a webcam model based in Medellín and a North American war veteran.
Closing the trio of projects coming from the Forum is O último canto dos pássaros / The Last Song of the Birds (formerly O vôo do flamingo / The Blue Flamingo), by Colombian director Beatriz Seigner, who presented Los silencios (2018) in Horizontes Latinos and which won the Cooperación Española Award. Her new film narrates the voyage of a Brazilian sound archaeologist obliged to go with her son to the place of his birth to find his father so that he can give his authorisation for the young boy to travel abroad.
Finally, the WIP Latam selection will see the first participation in the San Sebastián Festival of Matías Italo Scarvaci and Tiagx Vélez. Scarvaci will present his fourth feature film, La cuestión criminal / The Criminal Matter, starring Marcelo Subiotto and construed as a game of mirrors between two juries, one popular and one official, as they set about deciding a murder case.
Finally, the Colombian filmmaker, teacher and transvestite Tiagx Vélez, an artist who works in the intersection between the cinema, installation and performance, will visit San Sebastián for the first time to participate in WIP Latam with their second feature, Todos los lugares a donde ir / All the Places to Go. The film follows Miguel, who, after his boyfriend's mysterious disappearance during a techno party, clings to the images of him saved on his phone and searches for his presence among lovers, strangers and memories of the past.
This year, three films from WIP Latam are competing in Horizontes Latinos: Moscas / Flies, by Fernando Eimbcke, which, after winning the WIP Latam Industry Award in 2025, competed at the Berlinale; Chicas tristes / Sad Girlz, by Fernanda Tovar, who carried off the Jury Grand Prix and the Crystal Bear for Best Film in the Generation 14plus section; and Cinco años, cuatro meses / Five Years, Four Months, by Juan Miguel Gelacio and Esteban Hoyos García, a winner at Karlovy Vary after participating in WIP Latam last year. Awards
The WIP Latam Industry Award, given by the companies A Contracorriente Films, Deluxe Content Services Spain, Elamedia Estudios, Laserfilm Cine y Vídeo, Nephilim Producciones and Pecera Estudio, consists of the post-production of a film until obtaining a DCP subtitled in English and its distribution in Spain.
     
The EGEDA PLATINO INDUSTRY Award for Best WIP Latam coming with 30,000 euros gross for the majority producer of the winning film.

Lúa and Noé's job is to select natural actors for a sci-fi movie. Working together for the first time, Noé, who comes from the countryside, doesn't think Lúa, an unemployed actress from the city, is the person for the job. Together they will travel to remote areas and make their provisional abode in the homes of the country people who take them in. Submerged in a foreign reality, they will encounter a Mexico that embraces them, but which also confronts them with their own fears and prejudices, testing their tolerance, their resistance and their fragility.

An actor (Marcelo Subiotto) and a group of citizens are brought together incognito to make up a parallel jury who will deliberate a murder case simultaneous to the official jury. Two identical processes, one same defendant and contrasting verdicts reveal the justice system to be a collective, fragile and contested institution.

Alejandra is a single mother who works as a webcam performer in a studio in Medellín. Andrew is a disabled war veteran who lives on the outskirts of New Jersey. The two begin a series of virtual conversations ranging from sexual requests to trivial challenges, forging a bond that is born in the flesh but gradually transcends into a sweet complicity. Their loneliness collides when he decides to travel to meet her in person. What begins as an unpleasant encounter ultimately becomes an opportunity for both of them to question who they really are.

Hugo (14) receives an invitation to tour Europe as a cello soloist with the orchestra he plays in São Paulo. However, to leave Brazil, he needs his father's signature on his passport- a father he has never met before. He travels with his mother Rafaella, an archaeologist who studies vanished sounds, in search of his father to a semi-abandoned coastal town, which is being swallowed by sand dunes and where migratory birds are disappearing due to the climate crisis. On this journey, Hugo will find his ancestry, both on his father's side, which is Uruguayan, and on his mother's side, which is Afro-Brazilian, in what becomes a true family archaeology.

Ricardo Serra, a waning TV presenter, convinces his friend Mari to accompany him on a trip to record a new episode of Viajes y placeres. With a car and basic equipment, they travel to the Embalse lake, in Córdoba. There they film the landscapes, interview the secretary for tourism and meet her daughter, a young Youtuber. But everything changes the day Serra comes across mysterious alien eggs on the coast and sets out to investigate them, never imagining the consequences.
