Bernard and Mathilde, after loving each other passionately, are forced to separate abruptly. Fate brings their lives together again. Seven years have passed. Mathilde has married Philippe and they move into the house next door to where Bernard lives with his wife, Arlette, and their child. Inevitably, this neighbourly relationship will make it more difficult to forget the past.
