Z365" or "Festival all year round" is the new strategic point of the Festival in which converge investigation, accompaniment and development of new talents (Ikusmira Berriak, Nest); training and cinematic knowledge transfer (Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola, Zinemaldia + Plus, Filmmakers' dialogue); and investigation, disclosure and cinematic thought (Z70 project, Thought and Discussion and Research and publications).
The goal of the new competition is to use the audiovisual medium to send positive and heartening messages advocating the redistribution of wealth, the elimination of inequalities and social justice. The theme of the short films must be related to social issues such as wellbeing, the fight against loneliness and the improved quality of life for the elderly, support for women victims of gender abuse, those in a situation of vulnerability or cancer patients in need of social and economic assistance.
A total of six short films selected from all those submitted to the competition will compete for the Loterías Award decided by a jury made up of three representatives from the audiovisual and/or social sectors.
As part of its commitment to culture, Loterías y Apuestas del Estado has collaborated closely with the San Sebastian Festival in recent years. In addition to running special screenings at the event, from 2019 to 2022 it sponsored Zinemaldia 70. All possible stories, the project concentrating on the Festival’s historical archive. Thanks to its backing, the Festival has been able to offer citizens access to more than 4,000 digital documents (photographs, posters, dailies, etc.) as well as a catalogue of more than 27,000 entries describing the materials available for examination by experts. This collaboration corresponds to the traditional connection with culture implemented by Loterías as a public body and its commitment to promoting and distributing elements of our culture that help us to progress as a society.
