San Sebastian Festival dedicates its ‘Focus on’ to Philippines
Since 2014, the San Sebastian Festival’s Industry Department has been organizing Focus on, the initiative under which a group of professionals come to the Festival from a region or territory to know it first-hand, expand their contact network and participate in the industry activities.
The search for one’s own identity, motherhood, reconciliation, the providing of care and mental health stand out amongst the topics of the short films to compete for the NEST THE MEDIAPRO STUDIO Award
THE MEDIAPRO STUDIO Screenwriting Master’s Degree collaborates with the San Sebastián Festival in Nest for the third year running and will provide backing for the development of a debut film by a finalist student
The fourteen works selected come from schools in Belgium, France, Germany, India, Malaysia, Mexico, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the USA, and all will similarly compete for the Movistar Plus+ and Tabakalera Awards
A total of 473 films have been submitted for the 24th edition of the international meeting of film schools, a new record for the section
‘Morte cucina’, by Pen-Ek Ratanaruang, will open Culinary Zinema and a non-fiction focused on Joan Roca will close the section

The San Sebastián Festival’s most open competitive section will include seven world premieres amongst its 23 titles –15 full-length, six short and two medium-length films– several of which have been selected for Cannes, Berlin, Venice, Rotterdam and Locarno

The directorial debut of Juliette Binoche and the latest film from Junji Sakamoto will participate in the Special Screenings out of competition
