An herbalist, Dorotej, goes to a monastery with the intention of ending a plague that is decimating the population. Laouche, governor of the castle, requests his services. Dorotej strikes up a relationship with Hélène, the governor's wife, who is obsessed with having children. Meanwhile, the monk Nikanor and Dadara discover that they have one last chance to seize power.
