There is a disappointed hope. An almost diluted enthusiasm. There are many words that do not change, and speeches that always say the same things. The tongues seem to be made of cork and wood. There is Anna, tired from years of fighting and militancy. Anna who doubts, Anna who searches.
There is Claude, her half sister, from whom everything separates her. The one who doesn't understand her contradictions and her whims.
Around them, lost in a village, there is winter, the ice covers the canal, the cold kills the leaves of the trees. Silence shuts down all movements.
There is Françoise, the clown who walks the streets, with a book in her hand and the words in her mouth.
Jean is sick. He has not forgotten the desert or the war. He lives every day the memory of a woman's gaze, which one day smiled at him. About the silence, about the cold, about the ice.
