A fifty-year-old Greek teacher returns to his country after having taken refuge in France and having achieved good recognition for his pedagogical work. He returns excited like many leftist intellectuals to help rebuild the country after democracy was restored, after the coup of the colonels.
The first signs after his return are hopeful. His ideas on renewal in teaching are favorably received. He participates in numerous televised colloquia whose objective is the search and definition of national identity.
But these are only appearances. The conservatism of previous years is latent in society. The generalized crisis has even settled in private lives.
Only with extreme lucidity will he understand that after all, this is the reality in which he must intervene and leave behind the speculations that formed in his head during the hard years in exile. The reasoned "wrong accounts" of him in the past will end with the present. But his starting point will not be an end but a new exit.
