Quim, a Brazilian half-breed, all alone without any family, decides one day to leave the rural area where he has always lived, determined to get himsel a wife and make an old dream come true: to eat beef.
With his dog, a goat, a hoe and a little bundle, and after facing the dangers on the way, Quim arrives at a wide spot on the road called Velha Torta and meets Carula, an unmarried girl who inmediatelly besieges him. Since she knows of his dream, Carula makes Quim believe that her father, Nhó Totó, has a prize bull which is being saved from a dowry.
Later on, after an intense confrontation with the devil, the hald breed gets the money to arrive at the big city where he satisfies his old desires and sees new desires aroused.
