Matt Phlatt works as a road mender in wet and windy Flatworld, a city constructed of drab paper and cardboard. One day at work, Matt cuts through the main cable that carries the information superhighway and accidentally releases a dangerous bank robber from a gangster film. The broken cable gives Matt a massive jolt of electro-magnetic energy. From now on, each of the numerous and avoidable puddles in Flatworld becomes a gateway to Flipside, a brightly coloured world, inhabited by television characters. When Flatworld collides with Flipside, Matt finds himself in big trouble.
