The minds of the people who live in the Galaxy is controlled by president Sinteticom, dictator of the universe, and his invincible army of robots designed by Doc, his right-hand man. One day, a biosynthetic food carrier sets off at a tangent and the crew can do nothing to stop it. The situation comes under control when they make out the moon of Xilem, forbidden by Sinteticom, with its only inhabitants: and old man called Takna and his little flying dog, Chimpy. Landing on the moon, Takna tells them how, many years ago, the president had erased the musical memory of the galaxy so as to make sure he would have complete control over it. The crew members realise that the can destabilise Sinteticom if they succeed in spreading music throughout the galaxy.
