THE CHILD THOU GAVEST ME
John M. Stahl

On her wedding day, Norma wants to tell her husband-to-be, Edwards, a secret from the past, but her mother advises her otherwise. The secret is that norma has a son; Edward eventually finds out and promises that, though willing to adopt the chils, he also intends to kill the father. Suspecting his friend Tom, he shoots the man on surprising him alone with Norma.

BIOGRAPHY

The Child Thou Gavest Me and The Song of Life are two of a kind: the husband who thinks he's being cheated shoots the man he believes to be his rival, who has, in fact, done nothing at all. Fortunatelly, the victim survives his injuries and everyone eventually makes up. None of these films, given the chance, think twice about taking recourse in extremely melodramatic situations and theatrical stunts. In The Child Thou Gavest Me, the husbad believes he has killed the vile seducer of his young wife, who confesses to having had an illegitimate child. However, not only has he got the wrong man, but it turns out that the father of the child is the husband himself: during the war, he had raped his future wife, who was a nurse in Belgium...
