Synopsis
Volunteering with the Red Cross, while on duty at the Austrian-Italian front student Frederic Henry strikes up a relationship at a refuge with a nurse called Catherine. Separated by the war, Frederic suffers an injury and is sent to convalesce at Catherine's hospital - an idyll destined to disruption when Frederic is sent back to the front. But lack of response to his letters spurs Frederic's decision to desert and set off in search of the girl.
