Synopsis
Smooth-talking fairground lady's man Liliom loses his job as an employee on the merry-go-round at Budapest's Luna Park for flirting with Julie, who came to the spend a day off from her job as a maid. Becoming lovers, Julie falls pregnant and Liliom decides to take part in a hold-up to get the money to support his family - but the heist is a failure and Liliom stabs himself to escape dishonour. Out of the blue, a strange and spectral train appears to take him off to the great beyond.
