Synopsis
Parisian sewage worker Chico saves the orphaned petty criminal Diane from detention by claiming to be her husband. Having been warned by the gendarmes that their story will be checked out, the two move into his shelter beneath the rooftops of the city while the investigation goes on. The couple's blooming love is brought to an end as war breaks out and Chico has to join his regiment, with the promise that every day at exactly eleven o'clock he will think of Diane.
