Calle 54
Made in Spanish

54th Street is above all a musical film featuring the greatest Latin jazz performers of our time. Shot with six cameras, through live performances of pieces specially composed for the film or their greatest hits, these artists show the wealth of this musical current, born from crossbreeding and invention by the Latin community from New York to Miami or Sao Paulo, passing through Havana, Puerto Rico or Seville. But rather than leaving each of these actors-musicians to tell their own stories to the heat of the music, Trueba uses their voices and images to give us a look at the universe of the starring celebrities.
FERNANDO TRUEBA Ever since his first film, Opera prima (1980), he has shown a tendency towards comedy, confirmed with Sal gorda (1983), Sé infiel y no mires con quién (1985), Belle Époque (1992, winner of the Oscar for Best Foreign Film), Two Much (1995) and La niña de tus ojos (The Girl of Your Dreams, 1998), although he has also proven his talent in other genres (El sueño del mono loco - The Dream of the Mad Monkey, 1989).
