Afghan refugees Enayatullah and Jamal live in Shamshatoo camp, on the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan. The former's uncle decides to pay for their passage from there to London and a cousin. Travelling on ramshackle buses and lorries and always paying backhanders up front, Enayatullah and Jamal learn what hell really means during their dangerous flight.
BIOGRAPHY
Blackburn, 1961. Is one of the most active moviemakers of our time. Winterbottom has freely led his talent through numerous cinematographic genres: literary adaptation (Jude, 1996), the chronicle of a live war (Welcome to Sarajevo, 1997), social portrait (Wonderland, 1999), western (The Claim, 2000), musical (24 Hour Party People, 2002), or false documentary (In This World, for which he won the Golden Bear at the Berlin Festival). The San Sebastian Festival is this year dedicating to him its retrospective on a contemporary director.
