Synopsis
In the port of Marseilles, Honoré Panisse is in love with the pretty Madelon. For many years Panisse has played cards with Cesar, father of Marius, the boy with whom Madelon is in love. One day, Marius sends Madelon a note saying that he is going to sea for three years. Panisse once again asks for Madelon's hand. Discovering that she's pregnant, Madelon explains to Panisse that she can't marry him, although she finally agrees to do so for the sake of the child-to-be. A year later, Marius unexpectedly returns.
