Collé Ardo, a circumcised woman, managed to help her only daughter escape from the same fate and genital mutilation. The village girls are subject to clitoral excision at the purification ritual organized every seven years. This year, four young girls have fled from the village to escape mutilation and are seeking protection from Collé. The village is a hotbed of confrontation between two kinds of value: the ?moolaadé?, the right to protection, and the ?salinde?, the tradition symbolized by excision.
