Zéro de conduite / Zero for Conduct

A group of boys return to a French boarding school after vacation. They must follow certain behavioural codes if they don?t want to receive a ?zero for conduct?, the mark they get for bad behaviour. The school authorities unsuccessfully attempt to discipline the students. Three of them plan a revolution during an alumni ceremony against the school authorities. When the event begins, the boys climb onto the school roof and shower the formal occasion and its participants with tin cans and other garbage.
Following a difficult childhood and adolescence (his father, accused of spying and jailed, was found hanged in his cell), he tried to reinstate the political figure of his progenitor, a well-known Catalonian Socialist, while struggling against the tuberculosis that brought his life to an end at the age of 31. He only shot two shorts and one medium-length film, À propos de Nice (1930), Taris, roi de l?eau (Jean Taris, Swimming Champion, 1931), Zéro de conduite (Zero for Conduct, 1933), plus one feature L?Atalante (1934), not at all liked when released. Almost 20 years later the wrongdoing has been rectified, following a review of his work confirming his filmmaking talent.
