Nationale 7 / Uneasy Riders

Based on true facts, this film is set in a home for the handicapped near Toulon and the National 7 motorway heading towards the South of France. It stars René, the unsupportable sufferer of a muscular illness, and Julie, the fresh-out-of-school nurse who looks after him. René confesses to his carer that he wants to make love to a woman before it?s too late and Julie sets out to find a candidate from among the prostitutes who work in the motorway parking lots. Eventually achieving his goal, René abruptly experiences a metamorphosis. Surprised, the other disabled patients try to find out what?s behind the change. At last uncovering his secret, the finding causes mortification among those who would have preferred it not to have been known and glee among the others.
Trained as a screenwriter on different movies by Monnier, Marchand and Caroline Huppert, he went on to direct for the small screen various series and telefilms, including the outstanding Un arbre dans la tête (1997). His first feature, Nationale 7 (Uneasy Riders, 2000) won the Audience Award at San Sebastian and Berlin, plus the Critics? Prize in London. He later shot for TV Contre la montre (2000) on doping in cycling, his second feature film, Vivre me tue (2002), and Les beaux jours (2003) (TV).
