Blending humour with seriousness, innocence with wisdom, an African griot (keeper of oral tradition) uses the evocative language of myth and fable to relate the birth of the universe and the stars, the fiery beginnings of our planet and the appearance of life on Earth; but this is a true story, the story of us all. He tells us of time, matter, birth, love and death mainly starred by animals. Six years in the making for this second opus from the writer-directors of Microcosmos.
BIOGRAPHY
Both born in Paris, they have been working together since 1969, the year they graduated in Biology from the Pierre and Marie Curie University in Paris. In 1976, they received the coveted Niépce award for their photographic work, which has been widely exhibited in France and abroad. In addition to several books, they have also made various documentaries for TV and one for the cinema, Microcosmos (1996), presented out-of-competition at the Cannes Official Selection and garnering 5 Césars the following year. The movie was also screened on the giant Velodrome screen at San Sebastian Festival in 1996.
