The film is named after a golf club, the three-iron, which is rarely used. It's a solitary, dependable, demanding and difficult club, like the main character in the film, a quiet young man with no friends, who takes advantage of empty houses to squat in them, although in actual fact he uses them to live in and look after. Until he finds a house where a "damaged" girl lives who he decides to fix up with the same affection and devotion.
