Thanks to a mysterious tip-off, Daniel Plainview discovers that there?s a little town out West where an ocean of oil is oozing out of the ground and heads there with his son, H.W., to take their chances in dust-worn Little Boston. In this hardscrabble town, where the main excitement centers around the holy roller church of charismatic preacher Eli Sunday, Plainview and H.W. make their lucky strike. But as the petrol makes them richer, the conflicts start appearing: corruption, lies and vast amounts of petrol start to seriously endanger human values like love, hope, solidarity, trust, ambition and even the relationship between father and son.
