Borja Cobeaga

Borja Cobeaga (San Sebastian, 1977) is a director and screenwriter. A graduate in Audiovisual Communication from the University of the Basque Country, he started his career as a TV director on reality shows like Gran Hermano (Telecinco) and Confianza ciega (Antena 3). He went on to direct comedy programmes, the most noteworthy of which is Vaya semanita (ETB-2).

While working in television, he developed a career as a maker of short films: in 2001 he wrote and directed the Goya-nominated La primera vez, winner of over 30 awards. With his next short, Éramos pocos, he landed an Oscar nomination in 2007 plus 80 awards at festivals throughout the world.

Following Limoncello, his last work in short format, he released Pagafantas, his first feature as a director and co-screenwriter, winner of the Critics’ Award and Best New Screenwriter at the Malaga Spanish Film Festival. Pagafantas will be screened in the Made in Spain section at the 57th San Sebastian Festival.
